Making the coat was a community partnership. Twenty-two participants, each doing hours of crewel embroidery, completed one of the twenty plus coat sections.
Brought together and exhibited for the first time, the Earth Steward’s Closet showcased community created textile coats inspired by the natural world with the guidance of artist Marguerite Larmand.
Each coat represented a voice speaking for some part of the wider soil community. For our interests, the soil community was divided into three parts; the topsoil, the plant layer and the animal layer which includes humanity. All three are interconnected and interdependent.
